Phil and I enjoy our ‘cultural breaks’ and try to see the tourist ‘must see’ attractions along with meeting and learning about local cultures and the lives of ‘locals’ in the countries we visit.
Thailand is a fascinating and exotic country to explore with something or everyone, history, culture, nature, cuisine, glittering temples, colourful street markets, sophisticated shopping malls, bustling nightlife; it’s also very spiritual and there are many 'wats' or Buddhist temples everywhere you go.
Bangkok is a bustling city that has an energy and vibrancy that one can feel. A must see is the Grand Palace whose grandeur is beyond words, and photographs fail to capture the colours and intricacies of the decoration on and in its many building.
Outside Bangkok there are beautiful beaches and quiet country areas, including that around the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ one of Thailand’s most scenic and historic regions.
The people are generally friendly and welcome you with a smile; hence it is known as the ‘Land of Smiles’.
Then our stay in Dubai with the ultimate upgrade into the Executive suite with views over the Dubai mall and water show was a once in a lifetime experience – unless we are lucky again. |
